Closing Doors

http://youtu.be/798Ao3WZruI

The video above is about printmaking, and thus about life in my case.  It is not the reason why I am simplifying life so radically these days, but it does explain something that bolsters my commitment to doing so.

We hang on to things, and things hang on to us.  But things change, including our vision of life.  And closing certain doors, however we resist, gives us, through the doors we choose to keep open a path to a deeper river.

After a most serious divesting of things, clutter, old and some newer clothes, paintings, and baggage of all sorts, (still ongoing) I divested myself of Facebook as well.  I don't find it a good way to communicate.  So if you want to talk to me, my phone number is 425-785-9553.  My email is elizabethbrinton@gmail.com
I will make time for real friends, and even for casual acquaintances, enemies, but especially for family.

With election time coming up, I don't want to hear or talk about politics, torture, the economy, war, or disasters.  This means no Facebook.   I already made it through the 1960's as a card carrying member.  I don't want to talk about that either.  I paid at the office and there were no returns.

Tango is a door still open.  And the refinements of home and creating the environment to foster work, play, friendship, family.  The garden door is still open, but must lead to a simpler vision.  Too many plants.  If you want some, I have some.

I want to talk about love, spirit, change, space, time, art, dance, connection, recovery, light, color, redemption, fashion, babies, or cooking. So call me. I will be here cleaning out the utility room.

I don't blame you, dear friend. But I will miss seeing you on FB--especially pictures of your artwork in progress that you sometimes post.

And I live too far away to call you and chat.

For some of us, FB is a lifeline.

So I'll just have to depend more on your blog to see what's happening in your life, art and garden. (Gee, I'd love to have some of your excess plants!)

Maybe you will start a movement of simplification in the world. Hmmm... but that wouldn't be so simple! :-) Congratulations on keeping to your blog for so long. What is the average time for a blog to "live"? I think it is only a few months. --M

Glad to hear of another facebook 'refusenik'! & it's interesting how the blog has stood up to the competition: it's great that people still want to read more than one-sentence posts!

& thanks for the YouTube link. Really good advice. The absence of something can sometimes be more potent than its presence.

Good luck with the utility room!

Thank You Cherie, I will put more energy into posting artwork on the art blog more frequently.
The FB was sort of fun, like a big party line. But the sense of exposure to the corporate element really offended me with this last change and their statement that they would chose "those stories of most interest to me" (!?).
I might log back on in a few months, but right now, I really need more real connections. I feel the truth of art being long, and life being short. Anyway, I am here.
XOXO

Thanks David,
See? We can still be connected, and in more real ways, without giving all of out private lives over to FB. I don't think we have communicated since we got on FB?
And here you are!
