Help with Technology

I spent all day trying to figure out the blogger to make better use of it as an agile art website.  I got so frustrated. I am so tired of the inventors of these things who do not know how some people think and what they need. As these technologies take over as the default way of doing things, artists who know how to use them will be able to put work out.  Galleries are now asking for just a website.  Website must be fresh and up to date, and must have the bio, resume, statement etc.  How to do this?  Wordpress is not cooperating.  I cannot get Word to send a Resume, cannot get wordpress to accept a photo to start building the page.  So I thought maybe just change my art blog to do these things.  Easy to upload photos, new images, etc. But still cannot get a Word file there, or even keep my template from dissolving when I try to make the changes I need.  I am not stupid, but these things discourage me.  I really really need help.
Just for fun, here is today's "news" from Wordpress:  WPTavern: Revamping The 404 Page For The Plugin RepositoryWPTavern: Revamping The 404 Page For The Plugin Repository
See, isn't that helpful?
Anyone want some free artwork?

I know the problems, having spent frustrated hours, probably days, with these things, but I can't help because I don't know what you have on-screen. I agree the language is often impenetrable: 'plugin repositories' are only the beginning. The stuff itself isn't hard to follow, it's the language that's the problem.

I found Wordpress better for a website/blog, and we ended up with http://www.loopartists.org.uk/ which is a standard Wordpress template. It seems to allow as many separate pages and subpages as you want, and you can use your own image for the heading. It does what we want and it's not difficult to update, but you have to remember to click the 'update' button after everything you do: otherwise the info is uploaded to the storage but not to your site. It's not as straightforward as Blogger because it offers more possibilities, but we needed a lot of separate pages, and I think Blogger allows you only 10. (Incidentally, you know that if you use Wordpress.org you can have your own choice of domain name (eg., Ebrinton.com): you need to pay for hosting, but that often includes Wordpress. If you use Wordpress.com it's free but the address has to include 'wordpress.com'.)

It's not that hard to buy a domain and set up a simple website, but it usually means having to use a template which might be dreadful, although there's software to help if you want to start from scratch. Best ask around your community for someone who can spend a bit of time talking you through it, or through Wordpress. Spending a bit of money can save time and frustration.

Can't imagine why it wouldn't accept a Word doc. I paste all my posts into Blogger, no problem. I use OpenOffice rather than Word, but it's much the same. As usual, you need the 'compose' rather than 'Edit HTML' mode.

Sympathies!

there are some really gorgeous and fairly simple wordpress templates out there, but as I hear my bf cursing from across the hall, I know they can be a PITA to work with. (and he does them for clients)
good luck!
